This is a really short introduction to a new series. Being only 50 pages, it's a fast easy read. Included with this intro is an extract from the first full-length novel featuring Grant Garrick ... FATAL ANALYSIS.
While very short, it is well-written. The characters are interesting ... I'd like to follow this series to see how they grow into their new lives.
I found this one cruising Amazon. Glad I stopped and took a look.

Blindsided, the first book in the psychiatrist Grant Garrick series, is an interesting read and a good introduction to the series. Garrick’s character is well developed and you do feel for him. I wish there had been more to this story though.
Promise for an interesting series. My feeling is that this is an effort to cover the full back story for the readers before the real action gets going. I hope that is the case. If I had not read the excerpt for the next book, I might not be interested to following up of this character. I simply could not care deeply for Grant, even though he is going through a hard time.
Blindsided by Tom Bierdz, is an excellent, extremely thought- provoking book. It follows the life of a once happily married man with a loving and caring wife and son. When the couple experiences the most horrific tragedy that any parents could ever be faced with, their once close bond and wonderful relationship begin to spiral out of control.
I would highly recommend this book.
From the first page to the last you can't stop reading until the end. You watch this man go from being a husband who is a Psychiatrist and loves his family to a lost soul. His life is turned upside down. What kind of choices will be make now? Would recommend this for anyone who loves a great book.
I was provided a free copy of this book but that did not affect my review in any way. This book was a short, easy read. It underscores the way that one’s life can be drastically changed in an instant. The story needs a bit more development, especially the characters. The son who precipitated all the changes is barely developed at all. The wife just seems irrational, some, but not all, caused by grief. The doctor is more well-developed but his epiphany was abrupt and appeared to come too easily. The inadequate fleshing out of the characters made it hard for me to get involved with them, to care about or dislike them. I liked the story enough to read the next book. Perhaps the second book will take care of some of my issues with this first book.
As a start us story for what appears to be an interesting series, this tells the story of a psychiatrist who is driven to succeed, a wife who is left behind and a son who decided death was better than life. This is not an action heavy story, but there is some action to it. It is a story of the grief that happens when a child dies and nothing is left to hold a marriage together. What will happen and why are the core parts to this story.
I enjoyed it though I can say I honestly see why some people might not. It was a short read, maybe an hour and a half, but is packed with character development.
I would recommend it to anyone interested in a quick short read about people.
Short, vivid reaction to a teenager's apparent suicide.
No one was expecting the suicide. The doctor did not detect the difference from teenage angst and deep depression. The strong psychiatrist, Dr. Grant Garrick, crumbles wallowing into into drinking and sex after his less-strong wife divorces him for not recognizing and preventing "normal" teenaged depression from turning to suicide.
It is easy to have sympathy for Grant until his drinking goes over the top and the guy goes looking for sexual conquests.
This seems to have been a memoir that should have had some upside rather than a finish of Grant oogling a female client. The preview of another book in the series looks promising but Blindsided was depressing, not enlightening.
The author fails to find a way to keep Grant in character of a thoughtful, disciplined medical doctor.
